The 888poker UK Poker League (UKPL) is currently being held in the seaside city of Blackpool, with its first event concluding successfully on May 8th. The champion of the \u00a3250 No-Limit Texas Hold'em "Opening Voyager" event was Paul Newman.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

This tournament attracted 224 entries, creating a total prize pool of \u00a350,000. Considering that only 10 people participated in Group 1a, this number of participants is quite impressive. The top 29 players shared the prize money. Players who made it into the money bubble included Helder Casaca-Sena, Robert Douras, 888poker ambassador Ian Simpson, and Yucel \u201cMad Turk\u201d Eminoglu.<\/span><\/p>

While Stephen Lee doesn't participate in live tournaments as frequently as his peers, his track record when he does reach the money is quite impressive. Prior to this event, Lee had 16 results in The Hendon Mob's archives, including 13 final table appearances and 7 wins. He can now add the \u00a31,000 prize for ninth place in this event to his already impressive resume.<\/span><\/p>

Local player Jamie Wilkinson was eliminated in eighth place, followed by Chrissy Taylor in seventh. In November 2023, Taylor won a career-high \u00a337,000 in a \u00a3250 mini-Main Event at the Grosvenor British Poker Tour (GUKPT) Blackpool event held at the same casino.<\/span><\/p>

Edward Burke finished sixth, earning a career-high \u00a31,750. Following him, casino regular Lilian Welch was also eliminated, but she earned \u00a32,370 through her own efforts.<\/span><\/p>

Fourth place and a \u00a33,410 prize went to Chun Ho (sometimes referred to as Harry Law), followed by Bryan Taylor's elimination in third place, bringing the tournament to heads-up play. Taylor has been in excellent form since transitioning from cash games to tournaments, quickly becoming one of the most feared players in the British poker scene.<\/span><\/p>

The heads-up match pitted Grosvenor Poker ambassador Katie Swift against Paul Newman. In the final hand of this one-on-one battle, Swift went all-in with 10-9 but lost to Newman's dominant Q-9. Swift finished as runner-up with \u00a37,600, her highest prize of 2026, while Newman took home \u00a311,280, his second five-figure prize.<\/span><\/p>

The focus shifts to the High Roller and Main Event<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

With the opening Navigator tournament concluded, the focus shifted to the \u00a31,100 High Roller event. On Day 1, 42 players bought in, with 14 advancing. Late registration opened just before Day 2 (May 8th), and another 10 players entered the fray at the last minute, joining the competition with 16 big blinds.<\/span><\/p>

Helder Casaca-Sena started the tournament with 800,000 chips (133 big blinds) as the chip leader. Bryan Taylor (596,000) and Stephen McCabe (540,000) were in second and third place, respectively.<\/span><\/p>

With a guaranteed prize of \u00a3150,000, the \u00a3560 buy-in UKPL Blackpool Main Event 1a had only 27 players in attendance, with just two advancing to Day 2. Frankie Mok (659,000) and Louis Shields (644,000) were the two who qualified.<\/span><\/p>

The second group of the five starting categories began at 12:00 noon British Summer Time on May 8th. Currently, 22 players have registered to participate.<\/span><\/p>

Please note that if you participated in the UKPL Blackpool Main Event and progressed to Day 2, the start time has been changed. The match will now resume at 2:00 PM BST, instead of the previously announced 12:00 PM. This is because the Blackpool Waterfront is closed for the "Blackpool Charity Fun Run".<\/span><\/p>
