A look back at the history of the WSOP European Main Event<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The tournament debuted in 2007 and was held in London for four consecutive years. Annette Obrestad (who finished 34th this year) won the inaugural title and a prize of $2,000,000. The Norwegian online poker star was only 18 years old at the time, setting a record that remains the youngest gold bracelet winner in history.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the early 2010s, the series briefly changed venues several times before being discontinued in 2014 and 2016, alternating with the discontinued WSOP Asia Pacific Series. In 2017, WSOPE moved to Rozvadov, beginning its longest period of being held in a single location. From then until 2025, this small town near the Czech and German border will host this international poker tournament every autumn (except for 2020 when live events were almost entirely suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic).<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the top ten WSOPE Main Events in terms of total prize pool, six have been held in Rozvadov. Besides Prague, London also has two events in the top ten, while Cannes' Majestic Barri\u00e8re is among them due to its 593 entries in 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n
