Two years ago, Lex Veldhuis, then a PokerStars ambassador, won his first SCOOP (Small Open Online Poker) championship while livestreaming his own poker game. Veldhuis performed exceptionally well at the nine-player final table. After Ignacio Moron, Ole Schemion, and Arsenii Malinov were eliminated, Veldhuis was second in chips with only six players remaining.
China's "yyyyy96" was subsequently eliminated, followed by Boris Angelov and Andrii Novak, leaving Veldhuis to face Corentin Soulier and Viacheslav Buldygin in a three-way battle. The latter was eliminated by Corentin, and the match entered the one-on-one stage.
Heads-up play began with Veldhuis leading Soulier by 50.3 to 41.7 big blinds, but early pots were flowing into Corentin's side.
In the final hand, Soulier raised, and Veldhuis defended in the big blind with K7 suited. The flop came Q, 10, 10 with two spades, and Veldhuis checked and called a small continuation bet. The turn brought a 2, revealing two diamonds, and Veldhuis checked again. Corentin continued to pressure, betting a pot-sized amount, which Veldhuis called.
The river card was a King, and Veldhuis checked for the third time. Corentin pondered for a long time before going all-in. Veldhuis, who had 22.2 big blinds (the pot was 21.3 big blinds before he went all-in), told the audience, "I think I have to call. It's hard to make pairs. I'm not really keen on doing that." He then pressed the call button.
Corentin flipped the KQ cube, and Veldhuis came in second place. 64,022 were eliminated, while the champion took home the prize.64,022Those eliminated will take home the championship.143,241.
