Grosvenor's Victoria Casino in London triggered the UK's biggest Bad Beat jackpot, totaling £140,000. Renato Rossi's four sixes were beaten by Leon Scoon's four aces, earning Rossi £42,000.
Few poker players enjoy being the victim of a bad beat, but Renato Rossi may be one of those rare creatures. On the evening of May 24, Rossi suffered a severe bad beat while playing a no-limit Texas Hold'em cash game at the luxurious Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London.
Rossi showed up with four sixes, a hand that usually wins him the pot. However, Leon Scoon flipped out four aces, a rare hand where Rossi, holding one of the strongest poker hands, was destined to lose all his chips. Rossi didn't complain about his bad luck; instead, he was happy to see his strong hand defeated, as it meant he had won the Grosvenor Casino's National Bad Beat jackpot.
This prize is the largest in the UK poker world, totaling a staggering [amount missing] when this epic hand was triggered. £140,000According to the rules of the jackpot, Rossi, as the victim of the Bad Beat, received £42,000, while Scoon, who had the winning hand, received £21,000.
Rossi and Scoon weren't the only ones to win; everyone else at their table shared £7,000, and players who played Texas Hold'em at any Grosvenor casino location at 7:57 pm BST on May 24th shared the remaining amount. £70,000This is currently estimated to be equivalent to nearly £400 per player, with a total of 176 players grinding cards at various Grosvenor casinos at the time.
Surprisingly, this marks the third consecutive time that the Bad Beat jackpot has been won at the Victoria Casino in London!
The prize pool has now been reset to £75,000 and will continue to grow every Thursday at 6:00 PM BST until it is triggered again. Currently, four Aces are required to trigger the prize, but the required hand strength will decrease as the prize pool accumulates without being won; the minimum hand strength required to trigger the prize is four 2s.
While £140,000 is a huge sum, it's not the largest bad beat jackpot ever paid out by Grosvenor casinos. That record is held by £380,000 won in Sunderland in December 2021. In that instance, Michael Wharton's four 10s lost to Adam Smith's straight flush. Wharton took home £114,000, while Smith took home £57,000.
