Rene van Krevelen was born in the Netherlands and currently lives in Rotterdam. He first started showing up in live tournament results around 2015, playing local events in Breda and Namur. Like many top European pros, he spent years grinding the European Poker Tour and local series before discovering his edge in Short Deck poker. Once he made the switch to this high-variance format, his career took off on a global scale. He now spends much of his time traveling to major stops in Jeju, Madrid, and Las Vegas, competing against the absolute best in the game. Despite his success at the highest stakes, he remains a humble and well-liked figure in the Dutch poker community.

Van Krevelen is widely considered a Short Deck master. His style is built around an aggressive understanding of the unique hand rankings and odds that come with a 36-card deck. Because Short Deck is much more action-oriented than traditional poker, he excels at navigating high-pressure situations and making thin value bets that other players might miss. He is a very patient and observant player who knows exactly when to ramp up the aggression. His career reached a massive milestone in September 2025 at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju II, where he finished 3rd in the $200,000 Short Deck Main Event for a staggering $1,591,000. Van Krevelen is a regular force in South Korea, particularly at the Landing Casino in Jeju. In April 2025, he triumphed in the K Poker Cup (KPC) Super High Roller Short Deck for $529,600, defeating elite competition including Elton Tsang. His success in Jeju is long-standing; he previously secured a major victory at the Korea Poker Cup 2024 in the Super High Roller Short Deck for KRW 969,260,000 (∼$695,000) and placed 3rd in the 2024 Triton Jeju Short Deck Main Event for $428,000. He also holds titles from the Poker Dream series, including a victory in the PHP 280,000 Short Deck High Roller in Manila for PHP 2,495,000 (∼$48,635). Rene van Krevelen
