Car salesman and Dallas poker legend James Digiorgio passes away

Dallas poker legend James "Jimmy D"DGiorgio passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 66. He was a top car salesman, a music lover, and a beloved figure in the poker world.

The Dallas poker community is mourning the passing of James Digiorgio, a beloved local poker grinder and former car salesman who had been battling pancreatic cancer.

Many local players are more familiar with the name "Jimmy D," and they also know of his musical talent. Allen Kessler called the late poker player "Rocket Man," a nickname derived from his rendition of Elton John's classic song "Rocket Man."

A talent for poker, music, and selling cars

Digiorgio has made many friends in the poker community, not just in Texas Hold'em, and his fame doesn't solely stem from his poker skills. He's also a top-notch used car salesman, whose outstanding performance in the industry has earned him appearances in numerous television commercials.

Jimmy D has a long career in car sales. He has traveled all over the country selling cars and is one of the best in the industry.

PokerNews learned from his friends that 66-year-old Digiorgio sought God and became spiritual in his later years. He remained lucid for the last five years of his life, one of his greatest achievements.

Besides his success in car sales, Jimmy D is also known as an "old-school speculator" at the poker table. But his friend Tim Frazin says, "He does it in a fun way."

"Even if he wanted to use some tricks, nobody really cared because that's Jimmy. You wouldn't understand unless you played cards with him. Honestly, I can't remember a single time we played cards and he didn't say or do something that made me laugh. I'll definitely miss my friend," Frazin said.

Digiorgio has only one live tournament winnings recorded in The Hendon Mob's database, which was in 2019 when he finished fourth in the West Texas Hold'em Poker Championship Main Event, earning $10,294.

Jimmy D had a profound impact on the Dallas poker scene. Many of his friends have reached out to us to share their memories. Jim "Mississippi" Williams praised Digiorgio as "a compassionate man, especially to those facing challenges or suffering."

"He was a spiritual person who understood the true nature of spirituality because he earned the right to talk about pain and suffering when he met his fellow human beings through his own life experiences and hardships," Williams said.

Digiorgio was told by doctors he had 12 to 18 months to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he lived for almost three years. Many in the poker community will miss him.
