The newly renovated Merit Crystal Cove resort in Cyprus is gearing up to host the Mediterranean Poker Party, a poker extravaganza that will take place from September 17 to 27 at this luxurious Mediterranean resort.
The Merit Poker Mediterranean Party will feature dozens of events, culminating in the $5,400 buy-in Main Event with a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million.
PokerNews will be on-site in Cyprus to provide live coverage of the Main Event and the earlier $2 million guaranteed Global Poker Championship.
Over $10 million guaranteed bonus
Merit Poker tournaments have always been popular in the region, and the guaranteed prize pool for this event proves that. The total guaranteed prize pool for the entire series exceeds $10 million.
In addition to the Main Event and the Global Poker Championship, other high-guaranteed events on the schedule include the Merit Poker Cup with a $ 1 million guaranteed prize pool, as well as the $ 2,200 Luxon Pay Mystery Bounty and the $ 3,300 Paradise Mystery Bounty (each with a $ 500,000 guaranteed prize pool).
Additionally, there's the $1,500 Mini Main Event, also offering a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000. Other events to watch on the schedule include the $1,100 Senior's, the $550 Women's, and the $1,100 PLO 5 Double Board Bomb Pot for mixed games enthusiasts.
The $5,400 main event will begin on September 23rd, featuring four preliminary rounds, with the winners announced on September 26th. In addition, there will be multiple satellite tournaments, allowing players to compete for a guaranteed spot in this $5,000 event for as low as $800.
Can Thaller add another title?
Last year's Mediterranean Poker Party Main Event attracted 1,196 entries, creating a total prize pool of $5,740,800. Daniel Thaller of Austria, Timothy Chung of the UK, and Andreas Mavromoustakis of Cyprus reached a three-way deal to win the championship trophy and $786,670.
The final table also included Razvan Sabau of Romania (4th place – $316,000), Garik Tamasian of Russia (5th place – $229,000) and Dawid Smolka of Poland (6th place – $162,000).

We might also see Cypriot player Evagoras Evagorou. Earlier this summer, he finished ninth in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) $10,000 Main Event, winning the $1 million prize – the deepest finish ever achieved by a Cypriot player in the WSOP Main Event.
