Weiwei won the women's event at PD22 Jeju Station, demonstrating her strong skills and rich experience.
Weiwei wins the PD22 Jeju Station Ladies Competition Championship
PD22 Jeju continued to deliver exciting matches, with Chinese player Weiwei emerging victorious in the highly anticipated Ladies' Tournament, once again showcasing her years of accumulated international poker prowess. Fresh off her win, she appeared remarkably relaxed and cheerful in a post-tournament interview, admitting that the atmosphere of a women's tournament is completely different from that of a regular open tournament.
Weiwei said she has always enjoyed participating in women's competitions. Besides the competitive aspect, the most important thing is that the overall environment is relaxing and pleasant. She laughed and said, "It's all girls, which is pleasing to the eye." In the early stages of the competition, the atmosphere at the table was more like a gathering of friends, with everyone chatting about life and daily life, which added a lot of ease to the competition.
Bubble-stage strategy becomes key to winning the championship
As the competition progressed, the atmosphere on the field gradually became tense. Especially after entering the bubble phase, most players became conservative, hoping to secure a place in the prize pool first, but Weiwei chose a completely different strategy.
At that point, she held the leading chip stack and was in a CL/sCL situation with another high-stack player. Leveraging her chip advantage, she continued to put pressure on the short-stacked player, constantly widening her lead.
Weiwei believes that many players are too conservative during the bubble period, making them vulnerable to exploitation. Therefore, she prefers to take the initiative. This highly aggressive style of play became a crucial turning point in her eventual victory.
The situation behind the three-person table gradually became clear.
After the game entered the three-player stage, Weiwei successfully eliminated another player with a high chip count, officially establishing a decisive advantage. In the heads-up (HU) stage, due to the significant chip difference between the two players, she began to realize that the championship was drawing ever closer.
Ultimately, she maintained control of the pace and successfully completed the final showdown, lifting the PD22 Jeju Station Ladies Championship trophy.
Eight or nine years in poker: My passion has never waned.
With eight or nine years of international poker experience, Weiwei has accumulated nearly a million dollars in winnings throughout his career and has won more than 10 championship trophies.
When asked why she has remained passionate about poker for so many years, her answer was very straightforward: "It's so much fun."
Compared to the prize money, she values the sense of accomplishment that comes with winning more, and she has a particular passion for collecting uniquely designed trophies. She revealed that she even has an entire wall of bookshelves dedicated to displaying trophies, including not only her own achievements but also her husband's collection of championships.
Poker couples and family life balance
Weiwei's husband is also a professional international poker player. The couple runs a poker-themed YouTube channel together, which has attracted a lot of attention from players.
Weiwei, now a mother of a 5-year-old, is gradually devoting more time to family life. She revealed that her child has already grasped some basic poker concepts, such as knowing that AA is the strongest starting hand, and can also identify playing cards.
However, she and her husband remain open-minded about whether their child will enter the poker industry in the future, hoping that their child can freely choose their own path in life.
PD22's focus on women's events has earned praise from players.
Weiwei highly praised the overall experience of the PD Series upon her return, especially impressed by the detailed arrangements in the women's competition.
From the floral arrangements to the brand-new rose gold championship trophy, she felt the PD Series' emphasis on and respect for female players, which further enhanced the professionalism of women's poker tournaments.
She stated that she will continue to participate in various competitions, including the Mystery Bounty Tournament, hoping to maintain her good form and once again compete for the prestigious Golden Dragon Trophy.
A total of 1,281 entries were made on Day 1 of the main event.
