He began playing poker in 2006 while pursuing a Master of Business Administration and Master of Finance degree. Koon was a track and field athlete, but injuries forced him to end his athletic career and turn to poker. Initially, he made a name for himself in online poker under the pseudonyms JAKoon1985 and NovaSky, becoming a dominant force. Since winning his first live cash prize in 2008, he has transitioned into one of the world's top live professional poker players. Before joining PokerStars in 2024, he served as a brand ambassador for GGPoker.
