Steve O'Dwyer was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. Inspired by watching Chris Moneymaker win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2003, he began playing poker. He initially started with online free-to-play and micro-stakes tournaments, later graduating from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication. After the 2011 Black Friday event, O'Dwyer moved to Europe, where he solidified his position, winning several major titles, including the 2013 European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final. He lived in Dublin, Ireland for over a decade and holds an Irish passport due to his Irish ancestry.

His recent highlights include: a third-place finish in the $200,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em 8-max event at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro in May 2024, winning $2.157 million; and a sixth-place finish in the NT$1.5 million buy-in Superstars Championship at the APT (APTC) in Taipei in November 2025, winning $108,314 (approximately RMB 3,394,400).
