職業選手對決休閒玩家的撲克賽事過去曾有先例。Poker Central（現為 PokerGO）在 2015 年舉辦過一場淘汰賽形式的比賽，一張桌子由名人出賽打到剩下一人，另一張桌子由職業選手對決。最終贏家——演員 Kevin Pollak 和撲克傳奇 Vanessa Selbst——進行三戰兩勝的對決，由 Selbst 獲勝，贏得 $100 萬。

Triton Poker 也曾做過類似的事，包括去年在 WSOP Paradise 的 $250,000 Triton 邀請賽，那是一場僅限受邀者的多桌錦標賽，由 Kayhan Mokri 奪冠，贏得 $7,725,000。

但 WSOP 職業-業餘賽的賽制不同。與 Triton 邀請賽不同，職業選手無需由業餘玩家邀請，他們可以直接自行報名，無需邀請。至於業餘玩家，則必須申請報名並獲得 WSOP 批准。WSOP 職業-業餘賽委員會將審核申請，並針對每位申請者的資格做出個別決定。

WSOP Paradise 將於 12 月 2 日至 17 日在 Baha Mar 酒店及渡假村舉行。賽程現包含 21 場金手鍊賽事，包括保證獎金 $5,000 萬的超級主賽事。
