The 20th Arizona State Poker Championship—the state's biggest annual poker event—will kick off on August 13 at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale. This year's $1,100 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament will offer a guaranteed prize pool of 3,000,000.
20th Anniversary Grand Celebration

Talking Stick, Arizona’s premier poker room, is hosting this landmark championship event. PokerNews will be providing exclusive live coverage from the start of the tournament until the champion is crowned on August 19, as well as digital and social media content.
We will provide continuous updates on the major hands, eliminations, and exciting matches taking place on Talking Stick throughout the tournament. Day 1, Group A, will begin on August 13th at 10:15 AM local time, with one starting group each day for the following three days. Day 2 is scheduled for August 17th, Day 3 for August 18th, and the final table will be held on August 19th.
Players will start with 20,000 chips, but can add another 20,000 chips by paying an additional $30 (which goes to the tournament staff). The poker room has already begun hosting the $140 milestone satellite, providing even more opportunities to qualify for the Arizona Poker Championship before the August tournament begins.
The defending champion of this tournament is Brandon Mitchell, who defeated 3,546 entrants last summer to win $525,700, the biggest prize of his poker career. Mitchell, a local professional, defeated David Levy heads-up to win the title.
Mitchell held on to a middle pair on the flop in the final round, beating King-high to seal the victory. His celebration was memorable, and in a post-match interview, he expressed his gratitude for the support of his family at the final table. His wife was traveling in Oregon at the time, but he immediately FaceTimed her during the interview.
Mitchell will have the opportunity to defend his title in a few weeks. Carl Carodenuto won this event in 2024, earning $313,078, which was also the biggest win of his career.
