ClubWPT Gold poker site may be poised to return to Nevada.

ClubWPT Gold has suspended its Nevada lottery game due to changes in the regulatory environment, but sent an email expressing optimism that it can resume operations through product modifications. Players can still travel to California or use WSOP Online.

There's no guarantee, but it looks like ClubWPT Gold might not be leaving Nevada for long.

This lottery-style poker website, available only in the United States, sent a shocking email to players in Nevada last week. The message informed players in the state that they would no longer be able to access ClubWPT Gold starting September 28th. Purchasing functionality was immediately disabled.

This has not only frustrated online poker players in Nevada, leaving them unsure of what to do next. ClubWPT Gold offers the largest guaranteed prize pool in the U.S., and the site has thousands of players residing in the state. But it turns out, it might not all be bad news.

Will ClubWPT Gold make a comeback?

Starting Monday midnight, Nevada poker players will no longer be able to participate in cash games or tournaments. That's the bad news. The good news is that this may not be a permanent ban. ClubWPT Gold sent a second, slightly more positive email to Nevada players.

"In response to changes in the regulatory environment, ClubWPT Gold will be suspending its lottery games in Nevada. We are optimistic that we can resume offering the lottery games in the future through product modifications," the email stated.

ClubWPT Gold is not a traditional poker site, but it is represented by some well-known ambassadors such as Doug Polk and Phil Ivey. The site uses a lottery model. Players purchase hand analysis products and receive free chips, rather than making standard online poker deposits.

These chips are used to enter poker games (tournaments and cash games), and all won chips can be exchanged for US dollars upon withdrawal. Online poker is legal in Nevada, but the only licensed traditional poker website is WSOP Online, a very popular platform that occasionally hosts online World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet and WSOP Circuit events.

Many states, including Nevada, have begun cracking down on online gambling schemes based on lotteries, which essentially exploit loopholes that legalize casino gaming, depending on which legislator you ask.

It remains unclear what kind of "modifications" are being made to ClubWPT Gold products, or the timeline for the poker site's return to Nevada. But the email offers at least some hope to the thousands of affected poker players.

However, ClubWPT Gold is set to completely shut down its Nevada operations on Monday. Players in Nevada can still travel to neighboring states, such as California, to compete on ClubWPT Gold, or they can play on WSOP Online.
