The ultimate challenge in 15 years! DJ Mackinnon fights for his first money baggage in the WSOP Main Event: "I've never lost confidence."

The 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event continues, and while many star players are vying for the world championship title, a professional poker player who has been working quietly for many years has also become the focus of media attention.

Mackinnon has participated in the WSOP Main Event every year since 2011 without missing a single one.

This year, he chose to join the fray on Day 1, taking on his 15th challenge. During the tournament, he once built up his chip stack from an initial 60,000 to around 80,000, but then his pocket kings were matched by his opponent's pocket aces, causing him to lose some chips and leaving him with approximately 45,000 chips at the dinner break.

Although the start was not smooth sailing, he remained optimistic and believed that he still had a chance to break his past records.

"14 losses is not a large sample size."

Mackinnon seemed quite nonchalant when asked about his inability to cash in the WSOP Main Event for many years.

He believes that from the perspective of the tournament, 14 eliminations do not really mean anything.

He said：

"Ultimately, that's only 14 tournaments. In the context of tournament poker as a whole, that's not a very large sample size."

He believes that the reason this record has attracted attention is simply because the WSOP Main Event itself has extremely high exposure; if it were any other ordinary event, few people would pay special attention to it.

Despite repeatedly making it into Day 3, I still haven't made it into the bonus rounds.

Although he has never made it into the main event prize pool, Mackinnon has not always been eliminated early.

He revealed that he had actually advanced to Day 3 multiple times, but he had never been able to hold on until the crucial moment of entering the prize pool.

When asked about his earliest elimination, he laughed and said that there were indeed a few times when the competition ended before the dinner break on Day 1, but most of the time he fought all the way to the later stages before being eliminated.

From professional poker player to stable job

In recent years, Mackinnon's life has also undergone new changes.

Although he has gradually stepped away from being a full-time professional poker player, Mackinnon said he still hopes to remain in the poker industry.

In addition to participating in competitions, he has also assisted in planning some of the WSOP's schedules in the past, and hopes to continue to be involved in the sport in different ways in the future.

As for whether he would change his main event strategy due to failing to cash in the prize money for many years, he humorously replied:

"Maybe I should do what everyone else does and wait until Day 2 to sign up. Maybe that's the change I need."

It was a joke, but it also showed his optimistic attitude despite a long period of setbacks.
