From West Virginia to the Poker Hall of Fame, Jason Koon has cemented his legendary status with over $77 million in career winnings, 12 Triton titles, and 2 WSOP bracelets.
When Jason Koon was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame on Monday, it was no surprise to anyone who has followed the game for the past two decades.
Koon's Hall of Fame credentials are undeniable: third on the all-time poker money list, a leading figure in the Triton Poker Tour, a champion of the world's largest live and online tournaments, and one of the game's most respected advocates.
But what exactly was the career of the 34th living Hall of Famer in poker history like? Let's take a quick look back at the numbers, milestones, and defining moments that propelled this man from Weston, West Virginia, to the most exclusive club in Las Vegas poker.
2006-2011: Early Years

Like Doyle Brunson before him, Koon's poker career began with a sports injury that changed the course of his life. A talented athlete, he discovered the game while recovering from his injury in college, and spent the next few years honing his skills in online poker until his first major breakthrough in 2009.
That year, Koon won Event 17-H of the PokerStars Spring Online Poker Championship (SCOOP)—a $2,100 No-Limit Hold'em tournament, winning over $300,000. He also earned his first two WSOP wins, laying the foundation for his illustrious poker career.
Major live results soon followed. In October 2010, Koon reached the final table of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Festa Al Lago, finishing fourth and earning $225,680; later that year, he again performed well in the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic. However, Koon's early success came primarily online. In February 2011, he secured the largest share of $458,550 by making a three-way deal with 11,343 entrants in Event 24 of Full Tilt's FTOPS.
2012-2015: Expanding Horizons and High Roller Tournaments
By this time, Koon had emerged as a rising force in the poker world. Amid the chaos following Black Friday 2011, he began to make a name for himself on the live circuit. In early 2012, he had a deep run in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller event, finishing fourth; a few months later, he finished as runner-up in the 2012 $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha Heads-Up event, behind Leif Force, winning $128,660 and narrowly missing out on his first WSOP gold bracelet.

He then reached the final table multiple times at the 2013 PCA and 2013 WSOP. Later, Koon won the $316,000 Bellagio Cup in second place, marking what was then the biggest prize of his career. He continued his deep run around the world, including the WSOP Europe (Enghien-les-Bains) and the WPT Alpha8 St. Kitts. But despite consistently putting himself in contention, Koon repeatedly fell short of a championship trophy.
This changed in 2015 – Koon finally overcame the hurdle, winning the Los Angeles Poker Classic $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo High Roller event, for a prize of $436,344. This victory marked the beginning of a breakthrough period, with Koon subsequently enjoying two of the most important years of his career in 2016 and 2017.
2016-17: Breakthrough Bonus
In July 2016, Koon entered the golden age of his career—he won the 7th NLHE Bellagio High Stakes Tournament with a prize of $25,000, winning $514,080; just one month later, he defeated Seth Davies in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open tournament, winning his first seven-figure prize of $1,000,000.
Koon continued to deliver strong results throughout the year – making deep runs in several events, including the EPT Barcelona and the Aria High Stakes 44. He concluded 2016 with a perfect finish, winning the $25,000 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic.
His next million-dollar prize came quickly. After several near-victorys at the 2017 PCA, Koon finally broke through – winning the $100,000 PokerStars Super High Roller event, with a prize pool of $1,650,300. His final table opponents included Charlie Carrel, Dan Colman, Daniel Dvoress, and Bryn Kenney.
2018-19: The Triton Era
When you're one of the world's top high-stakes players, where do you compete? For Koon, the answer is Triton Poker. He began a long-term partnership with the high-stakes circuit in May 2018, ultimately making him the most successful player in the series' history and a Triton Poker ambassador.

Koon earned his first Triton prize in the Triton Montenegro Super High Roller Series, followed by what was then the biggest prize of his career – winning the HKD 1,000,000 (approximately $127,000) Short Deck Limit event, earning a prize of $3,579,914, eliminating Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan along the way.
Outside of Triton, Koon continued to rack up millions of dollars in winnings—winning the WPT Champions Tour ARIA $100,000 High Roller in May 2018, followed by a runner-up finish at the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl IV in Las Vegas that same month. However, he quickly returned to the Triton championship loop—adding two more titles in March 2019 at the Jeju Super High Roller Series, both with huge winnings.
2020-21: Focus on Las Vegas and the First Gold Bracelet
With the global lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, poker, like everything else, moved online. This was no stranger to Koon. In April 2020, he won the $10,000 Poker Masters online event, earning $549,000; he also made it to the virtual final table of the 2020 WSOP $25,000 Poker Players Championship online version.

He then continued his deep run in the U.S. Poker Open, the Wynn Summer Classic, and the PokerGO Circuit, but one trophy was conspicuously absent from his gleaming trophy cabinet: the WSOP gold bracelet.
All that changed at the 2021 WSOP – and fittingly, the gold bracelet came from one of the series’ most prestigious events: the $25,000 heads-up tournament. Koon defeated Hungary’s Gabor Szabo to win his first WSOP title and $243,981 in prize money.
2022-23: Return to the Tour
With the return and booming of live poker after the pandemic, Koon quickly began accumulating wealth on the live circuit. In April 2022, at the Triton Poker Cyprus, he racked up an astonishing seven winnings in a few weeks—all in the six figures—followed by further success at the Triton Madrid the following month. There, he returned to the short deck championship, winning the €150,000 No-Limit Short Deck event for $1,863,228.

Later that year, he added another PGT Poker Masters title, and then faced Phil Hellmuth in the PokerGO Tour High Stakes Duel III, defeating the 17-time WSOP bracelet winner in December to win $ $1.6 million.
If 2022 was impressive, then 2023 was on another level. Koon created one of the greatest high-stakes circuit seasons in poker history—winning an incredible six Triton titles in a single year, including a Main Event victory in Cyprus and another short deck win at Triton London.
2024-2025: 12th Triton Championship + Second Gold Bracelet
In 2024, the PokerStars Team Pro continued to accumulate substantial winnings at Triton and WSOP Paradise. 2025 brought Koon a brilliant summer – a double Triton victory at SHRS in Montenegro in May brought him to 12 titles, before returning to Las Vegas to win his second WSOP bracelet in the 2025 Series.

Koon won the $50,000 NLHE High Roller event, earning $1,968,927, propelling him to third place on the lifetime money list, a position he has held ever since. After his second bracelet win, he told PokerNews, "I've dedicated my life to this game, just to become really good."
Later in the summer, he finished as runner-up in the EPT Barcelona PLO High Roller event. The newest member of the Poker Hall of Fame then capped off the year in familiar fashion – consistently reaching the final table in the Triton event and the WSOP Paradise.
2026: Hall of Fame
In August 2025, Koon will turn 40—the minimum age requirement for Hall of Fame induction. In 2026, he will be inducted in his first year of eligibility, reflecting the high regard his peers hold for one of the greatest players of all time.
In 2026, Koon reached the final table ten times at Triton, continuing to prove he could still compete with the best players, although the "lucky number 13" was still out of reach for him, at least for now. However, success didn't leave Koon outside of Triton—in May he won $1,173,378 in the freeze event of the €100,000 EPT High Roller Invitational in Monte Carlo, and then added another deep run at the 2026 WSOP, finishing fifth in the $250,000 No-Limit Super High Roller event.

On August 3, 2026, at an awards ceremony held in Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas—the same day the 2026 WSOP Main Event final table officially began—Jason Koon was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in recognition of his amazing career and the respect he has earned in the poker world.
