A poker player was sued by his neighbors for excessive marijuana use in a luxury apartment.

New York poker player Chau Shing Lam faces an $87,000 fine after being sued by neighbors and the apartment management for spreading secondhand smoke due to his frequent marijuana use.

A New York poker player living in a $4 million apartment is facing an $87,000 lawsuit from his neighbors who have had enough of his marijuana use.

Chau Shing Lam, who has a record of over $300,000 in live tournament winnings on The Hendon Mob, lives in a luxury apartment building at 368 Third Avenue in Manhattan, where some neighbors have complained about secondhand smoke.

On July 17, the management committee of the 368 Third Avenue apartment building filed a lawsuit against Lam as the plaintiff. The complaint alleges that the poker player smoked marijuana and cigarettes "almost daily, day and night" in his unit, causing toxic fumes to seep into adjacent units and common areas. He is also accused of "creating excessive noise disturbance" in his unit.

Court documents show that neighbors claimed to have heard "loud banging, running, and shouting" coming from Lam's unit late at night. But an even bigger issue led the apartment management to file a lawsuit.

The community alleges that Lam's smoking habit has worsened the air quality inside the building, and there are particular concerns due to the health condition of a future resident's child.

According to the complaint, air quality monitoring conducted in adjacent units showed that "the level of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) spiked dramatically and repeatedly, consistent with the effects of secondhand smoke infiltration."

The lawsuit alleges that the air quality levels caused by Lam are "unhealthy for all populations" and "extremely dangerous for a child with reactive airway dysfunction syndrome."

Evidence submitted to the court by a pediatrician treating a 12-year-old child with the condition indicates that the child is about to move into an adjacent unit in Lam. The doctor stated, "I recommend taking all reasonable steps as soon as possible to eliminate the child's exposure to secondhand smoke in the home environment."

Over the past two years, Lam has received more than ten violation notices from the property management committee due to complaints from neighbors. He has accumulated over $87,000 in fines and has had his access to certain amenities revoked. Therefore, the property management has asked the court to compel the poker player to pay these fines and cease his excessive smoking.

Lam, a former World Series of Poker and WSOP Europe player, spent some time in Jeju Island this summer, participating in the Red Dragon Poker Tour Summer Series and winning seven times. He also won four times in the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Series in May.
