Thomas Taylor and David Simon took first and second place respectively in two consecutive PLO events at WSOPC Horseshoe, with Taylor defeating Simon in heads-up play both times, setting a rare record.

Although the World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet competition has ended, the poker action in Las Vegas has not stopped.

The WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Series begins immediately after the 2026 WSOP, filling the gap before the Main Event final table returns in August. While multiple circuit rings have already been awarded, the two Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) tournaments have produced a remarkable repeat of the previous one.

Taylor vs. Simon, Round 1

Thomas Taylor defeated David Simon heads-up in the $600 Pot-Limit Omaha event, and then the exact same thing happened a few days later in the $800 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament.

It's rare enough for two identical players to reach the final two of a tournament. For this to happen twice in consecutive PLO events, and for the same person to win both times, is truly extraordinary.

Taylor first emerged victorious from a field of 451 players in the #3:$600 Pot-Limit Omaha event, winning $44,586 and his third WSOP Circuit ring. Simon finished as runner-up with $29,699, and Eugene Moss came in third.

PokerNews reporter Brett Slezak also made it to the final table, but finished in seventh place with $6,185.

Taylor vs. Simon, Round 2

Just three matches later, the two players faced off again.

This time, the buy-in was increased to $800, attracting 247 entries, but the results were exactly the same. Taylor once again defeated Simon in heads-up play, winning another ring and $38,826, while Simon finished as runner-up again, taking home $25,549.

Taylor became the first player in the series to win multiple titles, accumulating over $83,000 in winnings from his two victories. Meanwhile, Simon also converted his two deep runs into over $55,000 in winnings, although he may still be pondering what it would take to turn things around.

Familiar faces achieve success at Horseshoe

Tournament top player Justin Arnwine won the $600 Monster Stack event, taking home $77,485 chips and his first tour ring, one of the biggest prizes of the festival. This victory marks Arnwine's 152nd recorded live tournament win in his career, a truly impressive number. It also pushes his 2026 live winnings to over $435,000, building on several impressive performances during his time at the WSOP.

Juan Maceiras of Spain has also added a WSOP title to his resume. Maceiras is best known for finishing eighth in the 2023 WSOP Main Event, where he won the $1,125 No-Limit Hold'em event for $54,978.

The biggest winner of the series so far is Andrew Ostapchenko, who took the $2,200 High Roller event for $115,890. Ostapchenko defeated David Peters heads-up, preventing the five-time WSOP bracelet winner from adding another major title – Peters finished the 2026 WSOP with a $10,000 Six-Max No-Limit Hold'em Championship (winning $1,001,391 and his fifth WSOP bracelet).
