
How popular is poker in Texas? The recently concluded World Series of Poker Tour (WSOPC) series, the first WSOP event ever held in Texas, promised at least $2.1 million in prize money across 18 gold ring events.
When registration closed for the final tournament of the series, the total prize money awarded at TCH Social in Austin was almost four times that amount. Texas Card House, one of its six poker clubs across the state, attempted an unprecedented feat—hosting a WSOP-branded series in the "Lone Star State."
The final results showed that the 18 tournaments attracted a total of 11,545 participants, and awards were presented. $7,167,245 With a prize pool of 641 entries per event on average, this was the largest series in Texas Hold'em history and broke a major state record.
