The 2026 888poker UK Poker League (UKPL) Blackpool Main Event witnessed a truly moving moment. 83-year-old British veteran Lilian Welch triumphed amidst a field of both professional and younger players, securing a career-high prize of £31,390 and becoming the most talked-about champion of this year's UKPL Blackpool Main Event.
For players who frequent Blackpool Grosvenor G Casino, Lilian Welch is a familiar name. Over the past 14 years, she has accumulated 71 cashes at the venue, with live tournament winnings exceeding $50,000. Now, she has finally reached the pinnacle of her poker career.

Fighting their way through the final table

After reaching the final four, Paul Orritt was left with only 3 big blinds and was forced to go all-in with J-3, while Welch called with 10-9.
On the flop, Orritt hit a Jack to take the lead, but the turn card gave Welch a straight to turn the game around and advance to a three-way showdown.
Ultimately, the three finalists reached an ICM agreement to retain £7,500 and continue competing for the championship trophy.
Brian Clarke, who won the tournament in 2008, lost a crucial match with pocket queens to Welch's AK, and was eliminated after a king appeared on the river.

During the heads-up phase, Frankie Mok attempted a comeback, but lost a significant number of chips when A-9 faced KQ.
In the final hand, Mok went all-in with J-2, only to be dominated by Welch's J-10. The community cards failed to change the situation, and Lilian Welch was officially crowned the UKPL Blackpool Main Event champion.
