Michael Casella won his first career gold bracelet at the 2026 WSOP $1,500 Badugi event.
Michael Casella creates the most important moment of his career.
The 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) will once again produce a brand new champion story.
Michael Casella from Los Angeles, USA, fought his way through the Event #8:$1,500 Badugi event and finally won his first WSOP gold bracelet, along with a first-place prize of $141,963.
This victory is of great significance to Casela.
Prior to this victory, he had only four WSOP cashes in his career, so few considered him a favorite to win. However, he stood out among many mixed-game veterans and achieved the biggest breakthrough of his career.
From chess master to WSOP champion
Casella has long been active in high-level chess competitions.
In recent years, he has gradually shifted his focus to poker and has begun to make a name for himself in the mixed gaming scene in the Los Angeles area.
In a post-match interview, Casella said that he grew up in a highly competitive environment and that the mental fortitude and focus he developed from chess helped him stay calm during long poker matches.
He frankly admitted:
"I've been competing my whole life. Chess is very demanding both physically and mentally, so I'm better able to handle the pressure of heads-up poker."
The road to the championship is full of legendary stories.
This $1,500 Badugi tournament attracted 554 participants.
As the competition entered its final stages, the table was almost entirely filled with top players in the mixed game genre.
Especially before the start of the final day, Casela had already anticipated that she would face the toughest challenge yet.
He revealed after the match that he told himself the night before that if his final opponents were Scott Seiver, Nick Schulman, and Yuri Dzivielevski, he would defeat them all.
Although Yuri Dzivielevski failed to reach the final table, Casela did indeed fulfill most of his predictions.
Defeating Scott Seiver and Nick Schulman
Once the game moved to a three-person table, a dream matchup emerged between Michael Casella, Scott Seiver, and Nick Schulman.
Scott Seiver is a seven-time WSOP bracelet winner, while Nick Schulman is a Poker Hall of Famer and a multiple bracelet champion.
Casella showed no fear in the face of two poker legends.
He maintained his lead on the scoreboard throughout and applied pressure during crucial stages.
Ultimately, Seiver finished in third place, temporarily ending his dream of winning his eighth gold bracelet.
Casella then engaged in a one-on-one battle with Schulman that lasted for more than three hours.
A long one-on-one match tests mental fortitude
When heads-up play begins, Casella has a chip advantage of approximately three to one.
However, Schulman, as an experienced champion, has survived multiple near-elimination rounds.
During the match, Casela put Schulman in a no-elimination situation six times, but Schulman miraculously escaped each time.
When discussing this process, Casella frankly admitted:
"I'm really relieved. Schulman went all in so many times, and he's such a great player, so anything can happen."
Nevertheless, he ultimately managed to maintain his advantage.
In the final hand, Schulman failed to complete the required hand, and Casella officially secured the championship title.
