Daniel Negreanu brings a successful conclusion to the 2026 World Series of Poker.

Daniel Negreanu earned over $1.7 million at the 2026 WSOP, winning his eighth gold bracelet and reaching the final table four times, and is still competing for the POY title.

Daniel Negreanu will conclude his most profitable World Series of Poker in years on Wednesday, and he will still be a contender for WSOP Player of the Year at the end of the summer.

This GGPoker ambassador had barely played poker since the WSOP Paradise Series last December. But he showed no signs of rust, winning his second gold bracelet in three years, reaching the final table four times, and still has a chance to add another one in the $25,000 High Roller HORSE event.

Negreanu packed an above-average stack on Monday and will return for Day Two at 1 p.m. Pacific Time. This could be his last chance to make another deep run at the successful 2026 WSOP—for the Poker Hall of Famer.

Can Negreanu win the WSOP Player of the Year award?

Negreanu hasn't played a significant role in the WSOP Player of the Year race in recent years, and he's not considered a favorite this year either. Shaun Deeb, with three final table appearances at the WSOP Europe, holds a commanding lead and is the clear favorite.

Deeb's summer has been all or nothing – just one minimum prize, one runner-up finish, one bracelet win, and a 15th place finish in the Main Event. Once the WSOP website adds his Main Event points, he will be effectively tied for first place with Alex Foxen. Naoya Kihara follows closely behind, with Josh Arieh and Jesse Lonis also within reach. Calvin Anderson still has a slim chance if he can win his third bracelet of the summer at the final table of Tuesday's $10,000 Six-Max No-Limit Hold'em Championship.

Then there's Negreanu—a figure rarely discussed in the Player of the Year race this summer. He wasn't even a contender a few weeks before winning his eighth gold bracelet at the $100,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha event, only to add another final table appearance a few days later.

Negreanu is currently ranked sixth in the POY competition. According to the WSOP POY calculator, if he continues to win the High Roller HORSE gold bracelet, he will essentially enter a substantial three-way tie with Foxen and Deeb. Even a second or third place finish would put him just one deep run away from the top spot.

The race for Player of the Year won't be settled until after the WSOP Paradise Series in December. Deeb and Foxen remain the favorites, but they're not a sure thing. One thing is certain—regardless of how things unfold in Las Vegas in the final two days, the competition will be decided in the Bahamas. While Deeb had a lead at the start of the 2026 WSOP, he didn't accumulate enough depth and winnings in Las Vegas to secure the victory. The winner will depend on who performs best in December.

Negreanu's profit and loss since 2018

Negreanu is aiming for his 15th cash and fifth final table appearance at the 2026 WSOP. According to his video blog post on Tuesday, he earned $1,702,513 in the series, marking his second consecutive summer profit after three consecutive years of losses at the WSOP.

This eight-time WSOP bracelet winner has been sharing his wins and losses on his WSOP video blog since 2018, when he lost $393,897. He then had a strong WSOP run in 2019 and turned a profit again in 2021 with two late-game final table appearances. Overall, Negreanu has earned a total of $1,131,600 in the past eight World Series of Poker tournaments in Las Vegas (excluding the 2020 cancellations due to COVID), a figure that will increase further if he wins a prize in the High Roller HORSE tournament.
